Khao Yai National Park is a paradise for bird photographers, home to over 300 bird species and an incredible diversity of habitats — evergreen forests, grasslands, rivers, and waterfalls. This 3-day/2-night program is designed for keen birders and photographers who wish to capture both iconic and rare bird species in their natural environment.
Day 1 – Arrival & First Exploration
Morning / Arrival: Check-in at Khaoyai Nature Life & Tours Resort. Enjoy breakfast and prepare your photography equipment.
Birding Excursion: Explore prime birding areas near the park headquarters, focusing on trogons, hornbills, barbets, broadbills, leafbirds, pittas, and kingfishers.
Key species: Red-headed Trogon, Great Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Blue-eared Barbet, Dusky Broadbill, Blue Pitta, Banded Kingfisher.
Evening Safari: A guided drive to search for nocturnal birds and mammals. Possible highlights include, Collared Scops-Owl, Large-tailed Nightjar, plus other wildlife under the starry skies.
Day 2 – Bird Photography Adventure
Early Morning Safari: Explore different forest zones, grassland edges, and streamside habitats.
Target species: Coral-billed Ground-Cuckoo, Siamese Fireback (Thailand’s National Bird), Green-legged Partridge, Silver Pheasant, Black-naped Monarch, Asian Fairy Bluebird.
Lunch & Rest: At a local restaurant or picnic in nature.
Afternoon Birding: Focus on fruiting trees and flowering areas where colorful species gather.
Highlights: Blue-winged Leafbird, White-crested Laughingthrush, Green Magpie, Banded Broadbill, Greater Flameback, Heart-spotted Woodpecker.
Day 3 – Waterfalls & Final Birding
Morning Birding: Last chance to capture species you may have missed.
Possible sightings: Crested Serpent-Eagle, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Orange-breasted Trogon, Asian Fairy Bluebird and many other birds.
Waterfall Photography: Visit one of Khao Yai’s scenic waterfalls (Haew Suwat or Haew Narok) — perfect for combining landscape and bird photography and birds in habitat with Slaty-backed Forktail, Yellow-billed Whistling-thrush.
Departure: Return to Khaoyai Nature Life Resort for check-out. Depart with unforgettable birding experiences and a gallery of photographs.
